Accused Stalker Asked: 'But Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A female accused with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told call records and data obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and is still open.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "What if there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What then? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to discover," the message continued.
The panel was advised that via emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with law enforcement who collated the data, told the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the months preceding the appearance to Rothley, that area, in that winter.
The court heard correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, discussing endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We need to make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which said: "We are sat near the McCanns' house with our headlights off like private investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial proceeds.
