Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
