Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
